Game two: Phils @ Mets

The PHiladelphia Phillies and the New York Mets.. big series!

Starting on the hill for the Mets will be Pedro Martinez with a 13-5 record, and starting on the hill for the Phillies will be Brett Myers with a 11-6 record. Pedro has had a good season, not getting his fastball in the high 90’s much anymore, but he hasn’t allow a run in either of his last two starts, pitching 12 innings and allowing 13 baserunners. Martinez (6-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 13 starts at home) has allowed three runs in 13 innings and won both starts against the Phillies, so hopefully, he will take this game too.

Mets take first of three from Phils, move up in the division and wild card race

If….IF, IF, IF, IF, AND IF, The Mets win tonight and the Marlins lose, the Mets will be in first place for the wild card lead and in second place in the NL East. So if the playoffs were to start tomorrow and all of that described would have happened, the Mets would be in the playoffs. But we still have a little over a month to play, and the Mets play a lot of rivalry games, many against the NL East, so we’ll see what happens when October comes. Will the Mets be in it…..or out? We’ll have to wait.

By the way, the division is also up for grabs. Are the Mets willing? Of course. The braves only have a 5 game lead over the Mets, plus, if the Mets win tonight and basically, everyone else loses, that story will change. So their special goal to reach would be starting out with the wild card, once there, the DIVISION

Giants beat Jets 15-14

The Giants defense allowed no scoring from the Jets offense, just letting them fall on the ball in the endzone to get two touchdowns from the Giants’ offense. Strahan sacked Pennington, picked the ball off from Pennington, and recovered a fumble. The only stupid thing Strahan did was, instead of downing it in the endzone when he had an interception, he just took it out to the one and got tackled, setting up the Giants with horrible field position. Eli Manning missed the game because of his arm, but he will be back by the opener, and is expected to miss next week’s preseason game vs. the New England Patriots. Hasselback is probably going to be the Giant’s backup behind Eli Manning at quarterback.

Mets Win first, lose second to SF, play third today

The Mets won the first game vs San Francisco 1-0 and then lost the next game, but there were a few pluses in the game. Jose Reyes had a triple, his 14th, leading the NL, and Glavine pitched 6 strong innings in the loss, with a two-run second inning. The Mets tried for a comeback in the ninth vs. former Met Armando Benitez, when Diaz doubled and Offerman walked with two outs.

Mets move up

The New York Mets moved up one space in each the NL East and the Wild Card Race. They are in 4th place in the NL East and are 5 games over .500 with a 65-60 record, and 5.5 games back. They are 4th in the Wild Card, and two games back, tied with the Nationals in both the wild card race and the division. The Mets beat the D-Backs 14-1 and won game two of the series which is a four game series. Jacobs hit a homer, his 2nd in 3 games. The Mets head to San Francisco to play the San Francisco Giants after they finish up their work in Arizona.
