Shockey re-signs for 5 years
The Giants and Jeremy Shockey agreed on a 5-year deal that will keep him through the 2011 season. His contract was due to run out after the 2006 season.
He will get:
$900,000 in 2005, $950,000 in 2006, $850,000 in 2007, $2.25 million in 2008, 3.25 million in 2009, 3.825 million in 2010, and 4.508 million in 2011. He also has many bonuses in the deal, including guaranteed for injury. Altogether, the bonuses add up to be 13.9 million dollars.
“It’s great to have this behind me and to know that I’m going to be with the Giants and with this group of guys for a long time,” said Shockey. “It’s a team that traded up in the (2002) draft to get me, a team that’s been good to me, and it’s where I wanted to be. This is a big relief and it means I can just concentrate on playing football. The great thing is we did it really quietly. No one knew about it, no one knew (the contract talks) were going on, so it never became a distraction. I’m grateful to everyone involved.”
