Mets split series vs Padres, and win series vs Giants

The Mets split their 4 game series against the San Diego Padres, and won their 3 game series against the Giants, giving up home runs to Barry Bonds, but still pulling out the series 2-1. The series before, the Mets started off well, with Pedro Martinez receiving his 200th Career victory, but then the Mets dropped the last 2 in a 3 game series against the Braves.

The NL East has the Mets on top right now, with the Braves and the Phillies tied for 2nd, and 5 games behind the Mets. After that, the Marlins and the Nationals take the last two spots in the Standings.

Julio Franco yesterday against the Giants became the oldest player in almost 100 years to steal a base. The week before, he became the oldest player ever to hit a home run, at 47 years old.

After the Mets’ day off, they will play in Atlanta, in a game with a pair of aces facing off, John Smoltz, and Pedro Martinez, who is 4-0 this season.

This road trip that the Mets are on finishes after they paly 3 with the Braves. After that, they play two games against the Nationals, two with Pittsburgh, and then 3 again with Atlanta, all series at Shea Stadium. After that, the Mets play 9 games on the road.
