Mets taking it easy
The Mets are going easy on pitching, pretty much just resting up for the playoffs. Pedro
is in Florida rehabbing, El Duque skipped a start, Glavine is finally making hasn’t had a start in quite awhile after his deal with the blood clot, but he will start within the next few days.
The Mets go into their road trip with 80 wins and are 15+ games above the 2nd place Phillies in the NL East. The Mets are most likely to clinch a playoff berth and win the NL east, which is the Mets first time back to the playoffs since they won the National League in 2000.
Shawn Green to Mets
Shawn Green has came to the Mets, and the Mets, who are obviously not trusting in Lastings Milledge for the starting job as of right now, sent down Milledge to AAA Norfolk and brought up Perez.
Mets low on pitching
In my perspective, the Mets are faltering somewhat in starting pitching. Pedro isn’t playing the same he always has, Glavine is coming off of a loss in one of his last few starts, and El Duque has been sometimes getting hit pretty bad. The only guys that seem to be doing okay are El Duque, Trachsel and John Maine, there is no one that is completely reliable right now in the starting rotation.
Although, I do think that the Mets starting pitching staff can do well during the remainder of the season and throughout the playoffs, as long as everyone is healthy.
Mets/Padres at Shea
Piazza returns to Shea stadium tonight for a 3 game series in a battle of First Place teams.
The Mets are 13 games up in their division and the Padres are 2 games up in their division.
Piazza has 16 Homers, and 82 hits in 87 games with the Padres this season.
Mets probable pitchers for the series
Game 1: Steve Trachsel
Game 2: Pedro martinez
Game 3: Orlando “el duque” Hernandez
Mets get Oliver Perez, take back Roberto Hernandez, ship Nady to Pittsburgh
Roberto Hernandez who was surprisingly great for the Mets last year, comes back, because the Mets needed another bullpen pitcher since Duaner
Sanchez was hurt in a Taxi accident and is done for the year. Roberto Hernandez hasn’t been that great this year but the Mets were saying the same when they got him last year as a non roster spring training invitee. Nady was a pretty big loss, but the Mets sent up Lastings Milledge from AAA Norfolk, sent down Pelfrey, and now it right field, it looks like Endy Chavez and Lastings Milledge will take turns until someone starts to do better.
Mets finish their series with the Marlins today…
