Mets Weekend Results:

The Mets lost game one of their three game series to the Washington Nationals as Oliver Perez pitched a great game, again, with no walks. To make a long story short, the offense stunk the whole night.

The next night, the Mets were rejected by a couple calls by the first base umpire. After a couple, Willie Randolph came out and barked at the umpire, who barked back and sent him back to the hotel. The Mets were then down to their final strike, with two outs in the 9th. Damion Easley, who was able to come through in the same situation this past Tuesday, picked up an infield hit following Shawn Green’s hit. The Mets pinch ran Endy Chavez for Shawn Green, which could have been the key part of winning the game, as Endy scored on a play Green would be out by a mile on following Julio Franco’s hit.

Later, Beltran put it in the books with a hit down the first base line scoring the winning runs.

Yesterday (Sun), the Mets sent red-hot John Maine to the hill and he was great. His Era is under 1.35 and he ended up with a 4-0 record for April, the best by a Met since last year when Pedro Martinez started off 5-0. Maine is considered to be the most underrated pitchers in baseball. He allowed no runs, as Wagner came in to close it and the Mets won, 1-0, with only a Beltran solo home run needed to win the game.

PreGame:

Tonight the Mets kick off a three-game series against the Florida Marlins at Shea Stadium before flying out to play Arizona for four and San Francisco for three. That is a seven game road trip. Finally, after that the Mets can chill at Shea for a bit, with a 10-game homestand including a series against the crosstown rival, Yankees.

As you may have read in my last post, the Mets are sending Chan Ho Park up from AAA to pitch against the Marlins, who are sending Mulvey, who is 2-1 with a 6.23 ERA.

Here’s the lineup:

1. Jose Reyes            SS

2. Paul Lo Duca        C

3. Carlos Beltran       CF

4. Carlos Delgado      1B

5. David Wright        3B

6. Moises Alou          LF

7. Shawn Green        RF

8. Damion Easley     2B

9. Chan Ho Park       P

update from Shea: Valentin has a partial ACL tear… expected to miss 2-4 weeks, but I bet you a billion bucks it will be longer, as he tore his ACL in 2005 and missed 3 months. Mets say he’ll start rehabbing in a few weeks at Port St. Lucie, and then play some rehab games and come back.

This isn’t too good, but at least it’s early, and it helps Ruben Gotay to get some time in the majors.

Injuries, Injuries, Injuries!

April 30, 2007 · Filed Under Mets · Comment

The New York Mets had two healthy players on their team a few days ago. Those two healthy players are no longer healthy, Orlando Hernandez and Jose Valentin.

Jose Valentin left the game two days ago against the Nationals after knee discomfort early in the game. He finished out that inning and left, eventually replaced by Damion Easley. After MRI results, the New York Mets decided they would put him on the 15-day DL, bringing a need for a AAA call-up from New Orleans.  After thinking it over of whether to bring up Anderson Hernandez, who has a great glove and a horrible bat in the Majors, or to bring up Ruben Gotay, who was with the Mets in Spring Training, the Mets decided they would call up Gotay.

The Mets have announced that Orlando Hernandez has been placed on the 15-day DL with bursitis in his shoulder. He will be replaced by Chan Ho Park, who nearly made the Mets rotation in Spring Training..UGH! THE 2007 VERSION OF LIMA! Let’s just rename it Chan time! Park is pitching at Shea tonight against the Marlins, starting at 7:10 pm.

Had Duque been hurt earlier yesterday, the Mets would have called up Jorge Sosa, also with the Mets in Spring Training, as he is rolling in AAA, but he made a start yesterday, preventing him to start tonight.

The Giants have the 20th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft on ESPN.

I’m not too positive yet on who Big Blue will pick, but right now they are looking at Defense and Offensive Line the most.
