METS WIN! Final score: 11-5

April 9, 2007

The Mets (5-2), put on a great show for fans here at the Mets opening day at Shea, with a come-from-behind win to beat the Phillies. The Mets, down 5-3 in the sixth, scored one run in the seventh, and blew out the Phillies bullpen in the eighth, scoring SEVEN runs.

Mets starting pitcher John Maine had a rough outing after the first inning. He really seemed as if he just DIDN’T have it today. He walked six, gave up 2 runs, and one home run.

I missed the time when Ryan Howard hit the HR, and many questioned what Willie Randolph did. He left Ambrioix Burgos in the game, in a time where he should have put in Feliciano, who appeared to be ready in the bullpen.

Jimmy Rollins went 0-for-3 hit into a double play with bases loaded in the fourth, dropped a Beltran chopper, and committed a very, very costly error in the Mets huge seven-run eighth inning.

Delgado looked back on track, going 3-for-3 today with 2 RBI, also hitting a sac-fly to score Jose Reyes in the bottom of the fifth.

David Wright extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a 2-run double during the eighth inning. Earlier he was robbed of a hit and threw his helmet in frustration.

Jose Reyes picked up one hit, with one RBI and 1 run while striking out once. He was picked off by Hamels.
Carlos Beltran was 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, and one run scored.

Paul Lo Duca, an expert at hitting the ball the opposite way, as he moved Reyes over from second to third early in the game, is batting .385

Willie Randolph wanted to get Billy Wagner some work in, so he let him throw the ninth, regardless of the score…

Moises Alou was 2-for-4 with two RBI and struck out once

Coming Up: The Mets have tomorrow off, and will finish the series against the Phils  Wednesday and Thursday.

GREAT HOME WIN!

  1. I have to side with Willie on Burgos, He just happened to throw the wrong pitch at the wrong time. He was relying on his slider too much.

    Great picture.
