Game 1 score: Mets 6, Phillies 5.

Game 2 score: Mets 5, Phillies 2.

El Duque pitched great in game 1, then John Maine did the same in game two, as he pitched into the ninth inning and let Wagner finish it off. Wagner pitched both games, making it uncertain whether he’ll be availabe for tomorrow afternoon’s game.

Delgado did great in game 1. He was 3-for-4 with a single, double, and homer.

Jose Reyes also hit a homer in game 1 on a low pitch, as he sent it to right field at the stadium in Philly where he says is his favorite to play in.

Carlos Beltran hit two homers in the second game.

Ramon Castro hit an RBI double in game 1, then El Duque hit an RBI single past Rollins.

Beat this One, Lou Piniella

Last night, during the Mets 1-0 walk-off win at Shea Stadium, Paul Lo Duca strongly disagreed with a strike two call in the sixth inning.

Not only did he say a few words to the umpire, but then he absolutely blew up, similar to a time when Lou Piniella comes running out to the plate and kicks his hat, dirt, and throws the bases everywhere. Lo Duca was being held back by Mets skipper Willie Randolph and it seemed he just could NOT calm down.

Lo Duca, after arguing, seemed to throw everything he owned. He threw his helmet, batting gloves, and bat on the field. Once he marched madly back to the dugout, he then threw his shinpads from the dugout to the field. He attempted to throw the rest of everything he owned, but it hit the top of the dugout and bounced back.

“It’s always fun to see Lo Duca do his thing out there,” third baseman David Wright said. “I’m not saying everyone should do that, but he plays with emotion — I like that.”

The ejection, well, may have been a good thing, as Ramon Castro was the leadoff man on base and ended up scoring to win the game with David Wright’s walk-off hit.

Mets Walk-Off with Second Straight Win

Final Score: Mets 1, Athletics 0!!!!!

Jeez. I wasn’t even here for this game and I came home and found out that the Mets won. I went crazy!

For the first five innings, according to my Mets buddy Rob, the game was extremely boring. No runs, no nothing. It became interesting in the sixth inning with Paul Lo Duca up to bat. He started arguing a called strike two, and the ump tossed him. Nothing much happened with that inning, as Ramon Castro was subbed in for him.

In the 7th, the A’s threatened as Willie Randolph then walked to the mound to chat with El Duque. El Duque brushed him away and said he’d like another batter. It actually worked out great as he struck out the batter (hmm, remind anyone a bit of the NLCS with Oliver Perez? Obviously it wasn’t a K, but it led to the greatest catch in baseball history.)

Pedro Feliciano and Aaron Heilman ended up with–get this– a SCORELESS 8TH. I don’t remember the last time I saw Heilman throw a scoreless inning lately (exaggeration, but still.)

I’ll cut to the chase to make a…well a short story short because it was scoreless till the end.

Castro hit a double to get the Mets going in the ninth. Beltran got intentionally walked, then David Wright hit a blooper to Travis Buck as he dove, missed it, and the ball rolled to the wall, winning the game for the Mets.

Well, that simply puts it all together. The Mets still need to get their offense in funk, but after last night’s 9 run job by the offense and today’s scoreless job pitching, I think the team is back.

The Mets have won a series for the first time in seven series and won consecutive games for the first time in 22 games.

Tomorrow the Mets end the interleague series against the A’s with a 1 pm game at Shea.

Mets Win Series Opener vs. Athletics

The Mets beat Mike Piazza’s current team tonight by a score of 9 to 1. YESSS!!!

No offense, Mike, but the Mets needed to win a lot more than the Athletics, because we have the Phillies and Braves right behind us.

So, here is what happened:

Glavine threw 8 great innings, even trying out the ninth but gave up a hit… he also had 2 hits on the day, an RBI single and a double. He finally picked up win number 296.

Jose Reyes bunted his way on base in the first and ran the bases like a cheetah and scored, putting the Mets up 1-0. The Athletics came back with a homer right after, but the Mets then took a 4-1 lead and broke things open. Shawn Green hit a homer off of a lefty for the first time this year and took it to the opposite field.. that’s good to see from a struggling hitter. Carlos Delgado picked up two hits, along with his friend Carlos Beltran, who smashed a homer deep into the picnic area at Shea. Reyes also legged out a triple, nearly scoring Tom Glavine in front of him.

Well, I’m sure anyone who did not watch the game knew that the Mets won right away when they didn’t see under the pitching chart a name of “Schoeneweis” or “Sele.”

Great job by the Mets tonight to turn things around. I don’t think anything specific turned it all around, as the team never is down, it is always tight and positive, which is a great thing. I think the team just focused a bit more after the day off and a fresh start of a new series.

With a win tomorrow, the Mets can FINALLY……WIN……A……SERIES

Wait–WHAT? WOW…

June 19, 2007 · Filed Under Mets · Comment

… and that wow is not a great wow, as it was when Endy had his walk off bunt back earlier this year when the Mets were a good team… it’s a bad wow!

The Mets were shutout by a score of 9-0, while the team really must have forgotten about their game today beforehand. I have to say I really feel bad for all the fans that went today. The Mets should just make a 9-run refund rule, where if the Mets lose by 9 or more runs, the fans get their money back…

but enough of that. Jorge Sosa, coming off his second straight horrible outing, lasting 3.1 innings and gave up enough runs for a whole series. Not that any other pitcher who came after him did anything special either. Aaron Worthless Sele, who only comes in during a blowout, and then gives up a few more runs each time, gave up two more runs on top of Sosa’s 7 runs.

Even worse, the Mets had an unexpected four errors. Also, the Mets only managed to pick up four lousy hits… and if you think that’s worse enough for one game, wait ’till you hear this:

Ok, the Mets are playing the Twins, an AL team, so that must mean that their pitcher has never held a baseball bat within the last couple years, right? WRONG. The Mets looked so bad that even Johan Santana was on base twice with a walk, and then…ready? A DOUBLE! YUCK, that was the worst thing ever.

Alright, now let’s see here… who had hits for the mets today? OR should I say A hit…  Jose Reyes had one hit.. whoop dee do. Let’s see… Wright, Easley, and Gomez are the only other guys who managed to get a hit, and not one player managed to get anything better than a single. AAHH! I keep getting more scared about this team every passing day lately!

And just imagine how crappy it must have felt to be up in the booth with Gary, Keith and Ron. I didn’t even notice who else was with Gary today. I was just focusing on how much the Mets players get paid to lose 9-0 every day.

mlbtraderumors.com yesterday reported that the Mets may trade a prospect outfielder, probably Milledge within the next couple days for a starting pitcher, and today’s game sure didn’t erase that possibility with a horrible starting job by Sosa.

Let’s let Oliver Perez do his duty tomorrow and get the win.  We need this series more than a human needs water.
