Mets WIN!

Finally!

I wasn’t sure what to expect… I know Clemens is old and all, but the way the Mets had been playing before this game, I didn’t know if we could keep up with the hot Yankees, but we could.

The Mets won by a score of 2-0, a nice looking 0 on that board under the Yankees column made me feel GREAT. Oliver Perez had a nice start, allowing no runs in 7.1 innings. Jose Reyes shut everyone up who said that he was only getting singles lately by crushing a homer in the upper deck in right field, and at the same time going 3-for-3 with THREE stolen bases…wow did i cover everything that just HE did? Oh, shoot no I didn’t. He also had two RBI’s to go along with that. There, is that enough?

Great job to rookie Carlos Gomez, who made playing defense looks easy. He robbed former Met and traitor, Miguel Cairo of a 2-run HR by leaping up near the stands and taking a homer away, while immediately gunning the ball back to first for a double play….hmm… remind anyone of anything? If not, you should have watched Game 7 of the NLCS last year.

Carlos Delgado may be THE most streaky baseball player I have ever seen… no, make that THE most streaky ATHLETE I have EVER SEEN. He started the season horrible, then went and crushed homers left and right for about a week, then was off and on, and finally now is back to his slumping self. Jeez, you never know what to expect from him. He not only had an opher, was 0-for-4, but also had FOUR STRIKEOUTS! ooh! that makes me shiver just thinking of that!

Alright, Met fans, lets take game two from these guys and win the series already. Game two today at 1:05 PM.

Subway Series: Mets/Yanks

June 15, 2007 · Filed Under Mets · Comment

The Mets are back home–well, sorta– they’re in NY, but they’re playing at Yankee Stadium. Here’s the deal:

Start Time:7: 05 PM

TV + Radio: CW11, 660 WFAN New York

Weather: 72 Degrees, partly cloudy

Pitchers: Oliver Perez (6-5, 3.21) vs. Roger Clemens (1-0, 4.50)

The Game: Well, the Met fans all around know that road trip is one to forget… getting swept and losing two out of three. The Met fans are really hoping that the day off yesterday is just what the Mets needed to get refueled and bounce back.

Roger Clemens, who is facing the Mets today, is coming off of a shaky win. He picked up the win, but it wasn’t too pretty. Against the Pirates in his first and only start of the season so far, he allowed three runs in six innings.

Oliver Perez, starting off great this season, has been shaky throughout his past few starts.  His last win was May 23 against the Braves. Since then he has two losses and a no decision.

The Mets lineup today looks as follows. As you notice, in bold Delgado is a DH today in the interleague game, and Uncle Franco is playing first base. Let’s see if he can actually make contact on a fastball tonight at his age…

1.    Jose Reyes        SS

2.   Carlos Beltran   CF

3.   David Wright    3B

4.   Carlos Delgado  DH

5.    Lo Duca              C

6.    Shawn Green    RF

7.    Franco                1B

8.    Valentin              2B

9.    Gomez                LF

Mets Lose Series to Tigers

June 11, 2007 · Filed Under Mets · Comment

Final score: Tigers 15, Mets 7.

The Mets have lost six of their last seven games, and the only bright spot on the team right now seems to be David Wright. He has four homers in four straight games right now.

The Mets pitching has been horrible. The team’s offense has scored seven runs in consecutive games, and both games were losses due to pitching.

Alright, that was a great move by the Mets to send down the worthless David Newhan, and sent up Ricky Ledee, who wasn’t expected to do much, but the other night picked up two doubles. Obviously that’s a big improvement already…

BUT, the Mets still have some housecleaning to do. Aaron Heilman has struggled big time, and if he doesn’t clean himself up by all-star break, the Mets could deal him. He wants out anyway because he won’t stop whining that he wants to be a starter.

The Mets also need to get rid of Schoeneweis and Sele, they are both HORRIBLE and WORTHLESS. Schoeneweis seems to blow the game every time he comes in. Sele usually comes in when someone gets shelled for long relief, and he usually then allows even MORE runs to score. I think the Mets should have re-signed last year’s long reliever Darren Oliver.

Today the Mets begin a three game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. Pitching game 1 is El Duque, pitching game 2 is John Maine, while the RED HOT Jorge Sosa will pitch game three.

All three games of the series begin at 10:10 PM.

Mets Quiet Detroit’s Sellout Crowd

June 9, 2007 · Filed Under Mets · Comment

The Mets on saturday shut out the Detroit Tigers to end their four game skid, 3-0. The game was a first of a three game series in Detroit, where the Mets are playing their second interleague series of the season.

Delgado had a nice monster Homer, along with Wright, which only one of those ended up to be all the Mets needed.

Jorge Sosa keeps on rolling. He is the only Met in history to get six wins in his first seven starts, as he is 6-1 with a 2.64.

Delgado and David Wright are on fire with the Mets. Not just because they’ve been hitting or fielding well, which they both have been doing, but also they both have a home run in two consecutive games, all four homers have been solo.

Billy Wagner’s slider looked NASTY in the ninth inning, wow. Guys were swinging at everything. Maybe it’s b/c they’re not in the NL and they’re not used to hitting vs. Wagner. I don’t know, but Wagner looked real sharp last night, as usual (except for the other night, where he blew his first save since August of 2006).

Tonight at 7, the Mets and Tigers square off again in game two of a three game set.

Struggling at Home, Mets Lose Four Straight

June 8, 2007 · Filed Under Mets · Comment

That’s four.

The Mets have lost four straight, and have been swept by a team at Shea Stadium for the first time since late in the 2005 season. It seems odd to me how a team, close to last year’s, is doing so great on the road, yet so horrible at home, opposite to what it was last season. Valentin came back, having a great night at the plate. The Mets were able to hit back-t0-back home runs by Delgado, Wright and Lo Duca, but unfortuneately, were all solo homers.

Billy Wagner blew his first save since I even remember… maybe that Yankee series last year at Shea. I don’t know, but I don’t put him at fault completely, because I don’t think he is a great pitcher in any way or form when he pitches more than one inning of relief. He also didn’t lose the game, he only gave up one run, which tied it, not lose it, and the Mets should have hit better and won it in the ninth.

Scott Scheoeweis, who I hate now, has been doing bad, and complains of arm problems, but I don’t care. If you can pitch in a game, you better pitch well. I think the Mets need to ship him out immediately.

Tonight at 7 PM, the Mets play their second interleague series of the season, which is against the Detroit Tigers in Detroit.

The Mets are lucky to have the Braves struggling too, as if it wasn’t for them, the Mets probably would be in second place.
