2007-08 Giants NFC East Predictions

October 13, 2007 · Filed Under Giants · Comment

This is my NFC East season prediction:

X- Clinched Playoff Berth Y- Clinched Division Z- Clinched First Round Bye *-Clinched Home Field Advantage

1. Y-GiantsĀ  11-5 (wins tiebreaker based on record within division)

2. X-Cowboys 11-5

3. RedskinsĀ  9-7

4. Eagles 7-9

I feel that these Giants are much like the 2000 Giants that went on to the super bowl. After a 3-2 start, Big blue lost only two more games in 2000. They went on to be 12-4 and had home field advantage. I don’t believe this team will be able to get home field advantage, but still will get a home game, anyway. I feel that the Cowboys will go 5-5 from here on out.

The easy schedule for the Giants should help them gain ground in the NFC, and even more important, gain confidence. A team that has a better record has better confidence, leading to more victories.

Falcons Host Giants this Week

The Giants (3-2) will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons.

Notes:

Throughout the years, this matchup has been won by the visiting team, as the visiting team has won the last 11 games.

Eli Manning made his first career start against the Falcons. He threw his first career TD pass to TE Jeremy Shockey.

The Falcons lead the series, 10-8.

The Giants have won three straight games, all after falling 0-2 to start the season. At one point, they were 0-2 while facing the Redskins and down 17-3 at the half. Ever since recovering from that game, the Giants, especially their defense, has been unstoppable. The offense, except for Plaxico Burress, has not been overly effective, but the defense has bailed them out several times.

Plaxico Burress leads the NFL in touchdown receptions (tied with Randy Moss).

Osi Umenyiora leads the NFL in sacks.

Prediction: Giants 31, Falcons 14

Giants Own NY as Plaxico has Most TD in NFL

The Giants, winners of three straight, beat the cross-town rival Jets and moved to 3-2 on the season. For the second time in three games, the Giants came from two scores behind at halftime to win.

The offense started clicking in the second half and the defense started dancing around and picking off Pennington. Aaron Ross, who was benched for the first half by Tom Coughlin for an undisclosed reason, had two interceptions in the second half to lead the defense.

Plaxico Burress caught a short pass and faked his way for a touchdown, his seventh of the year, tied for the most in the NFL with Randy Moss of the Patriots.

Burress, who has been dealing with a sprained ankle for quite some time now this season, just went out in the second half and pushed it to it’s maximum, just hoping it would be ok. It turned out great.

“I start off the first quarter, the second quarter, trying not to further the injury, said Burress, who has been unable to practice during the week because his ankle is too sore. Sometimes I feel like I’m being real gingerly on it. I don’t really know what to expect from myself. And I don’t know the pain threshold that it has. I went out in the second half and just said, Screw it. I just wanted to go out to play and see what happens. If I can’t go, then I can’t go. It actually worked out better for me. It actually worked out well for me. So I’m going to try to start the games off the way I did yesterday for myself.

“I’m not saving it,” Burress said. “But I may not be able to make it four quarters like that.”

Reyes Criticism NEEDS to Stop!

October 4, 2007 · Filed Under Mets · 1 Comment

Jose Reyes hustles more than any other player in the league. He never ran on a few balls he thought were foul this year, ok, we all know that, but every other time, he sprints out a ground ball or fly ball, throws the runner out, catches the pop-up, turns the double play, and makes some flashy plays to go along with it.

To say Reyes is lazy or whatever people are saying is pathetic and the most silly thing I have heard in years.

Jose Reyes DID lead the league in stolen baes, did he not? Shouldn’t that show people that he DOES RUN? Sheesh, even know I want to be a sports writer, some of them out there are wacked out…anyways…

Also, what’s this nonsense about Reyes and his friends “celebrating” too much? Puh-lease, everyone does that, and nobody said a word about that when the Mets were cruising in 2006, and most of 2007. The only reason that people are trashing Reyes is that the Mets flunked out as a team through the end of the year and they want to find reasons.

Any criticism about Reyes whatsoever needs to stop. He is one of the best shortstops in the game, period.

Big Blue Comes Through; Hosts Jets this Week

October 2, 2007 · Filed Under Giants · Comment

After a huge comeback victory the week before agaisnt the then-undefeated Redskins, the Giants took that momentum and prevented the eagles from getting into the endzone at all. The Eagles were getting penalized play after play after play and it cost them the game. Not only did that hurt them, but so did their offensive line.

The Giants had the most sacks in a game in NFL History (tied), as Osi Umenyiora took down Mcnabb behind the line a total of 6 times and the defense had a total of 12 sacks.

This week, the Giants (2-2) take on the Jets (1-3) at Giants Stadium. The game is a very important game for each team, as the Giants look to improve over the .500 mark, and the Jets will try to prevent themselves from falling in a desperate 1-4 hole. The powerful Giants offense will likely score often against an inexperienced and weak Jets defense that allowed a no-namer to throw all over them last week in Buffalo.

The Giants defense, coming off of two of their best weeks in their history, should have success against the Jets offense that includes a very shaky quarterback situation with Chad Pennington, who missed a week earlier this season. Pennington’s job is certainly in jeapordy after last week’s horrendous performance, when he threw two interceptions late in the game. Not only has he been struggling, but his backup Kellen Clemens is anxiously waiting for a starting job. Earlier this season, when Pennington was ruled out for a game because of injury, Kellen Clemens had a great time in the second half of the Jets’ loss to the Ravens, as he would have likely won the game for his team if it wasn’t for several dropped throws by the Jets’ wide receivers .

Prediction: Giants 24, Jets 13
