Scouting this week’s opponent: The Green Bay Packers

January 14, 2008 · Filed Under Giants, This Week's Giants Game · Comment

The Green Bay Packers are a very talented football team, and they’ve come a looong way since last season when they were 8-8. Their WR corp is amazing now, and all Brett Favre has to do is take two steps back and gun it to them on a slant pass. It’s almost guaranteed they will break tackles and get plenty of yards after catch.

Ryan Grant, who the Giants let go as a nobody, was picked up by the Packers because they thought he might be of somewhat use. I guess so. Last week he ran all over the Seattle defense and he’s had some of the NFL’s most rushing yards since mid-season. This is a guy to be afraid of.

If the Giants D-Line puts pressure on Brett Favre, I expect he’ll have a hard time, and I don’t care who you are, if it is under 10 degrees, it’s not going to be an easy thing to throw the ball to a WR down the field when you’re getting hit hard.

GIANTS HEADED THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!!!!!!

January 13, 2008 · Filed Under Giants, This Week's Giants Game · 1 Comment

THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS HAVE KNOCKED OFF THE #1 SEED DALLAS COWBOYS AND WITH ONE MORE WIN, THEY WILL BE IN THE SUPER BOWL!!!

The Giants had all sorts of momentum from both the New England game and the Tampa Bay game in their favor going into this game and they used it to their advantage. The just-woken-from-their-nap Cowboys were met head on with the Steaming-Hot G-Men and failed to even win one playoff game in their big season.

The Cowboys, whose pro bowlers outnumbered the Giants 12-1, were losing 21-17 late in the game and had stopped the Giants offense, meaning with 1 time-out left, Dallas had one more shot. The Cowboys started around midfield and got all the way down to the red zone due to penalties. The Giants, whose CB’s position were already thinned due to injury, were dropping like flies all the way down to the practice squad players! Dropped Cowboy Passes, strong pressure on Romo, and mis-communications all led to the Dallas loss.

Sam Madison will likely return to the NFC Championship game, at least I’m guessing, and Aaron Ross will hopefully be able to repair his damaged arm. The Giants defense is doing a fantastic job, and you have to give credit to the defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo. He has come from being a little-known linebackers coach to a big-time defensive coach that is already being considered for head coaching jobs (Atlanta).

Eli Manning and Amani Toomer had a great game, with Toomer catching two TD’s from Manning and Eli not even throwing a pick. He has thrown 0 INT’s during the playoffs. The Giants have been staying away from Burress because the defenses all expect Burress to be the man that gets the ball his way. The Giants used him to throw the ball elsewhere, like to Steve Smith and Amani Toomer.

Like what my brother Tim said today, great quarterbacks happen in the playoffs, not the regular season. Tony Romo has been a solid regular season quarterback, but he hasn’t gotten anything done in the playoffs. Back-to-back years he has made the final play for the Cowboys, and each season it was a turnover.

The Giants won their 9th straight game on the road, something that is unprecedented. One big thing that will help the Giants if they win next week is that they will get a bye week before the Super Bowl.

Anything can happen next week, and it will all come down to whether the Giants can stop two things: Ryan Grant, and the Green Bay slants that the WR’s do. Besides, if the Giants can beat the number 1 seed, what makes you think they can’t beat the number 2 seed? If they do, the New York Football Giants will be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Giants Gameday! Giants Go to NFC Champ. Game W/ Win!

With a win in Dallas today, the Giants will be traveling to Green Bay to take on the Packers in the NFC Championship Game. The winner will represent the NFC in the Super Bowl!!

Well, lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. The Giants first need to win against the NFC’s number 1 seed, which is all rested up following their bye week. The Giants, however, are on fire with a playoff win already this season. The last time the Cowboys won a playoff game? Over a decade ago. The Giants? Well, a week ago.

The Giants will also take their 8-game road winning streak with them to Dallas. The only loss on the road for Big Blue this season was in Dallas the opening week.

The Injury Report:

WR Plaxico Burress Questionable

NY Post: Giants’ Secret Weapon: Jessica Simpson

January 8, 2008 · Filed Under This Week's Giants Game · 1 Comment

Today in the NY Post, a funny story came about when stating that if Jessica Simpson is in attendance for the Giants/Cowboys game at Texas Stadium this weekend, that she would be the Giants’ secret weapon. She has been an obvious distraction for Romo on multiple occasions this year.

People all over are making big deals about it.

According to the NY Post, Online Sportsbook.com has a line on whether Simpson will attend. Yesterday, bettors thinking she’ll be at Texas Stadium come Sunday, could get a 1-to-1 wager, but those believing she will stay away had to lay out $140 to win $100.

This Week’s Opponent: The Dallas Cowboys

January 8, 2008 · Filed Under Giants, This Week's Giants Game · 2 Comments

The Dallas Cowboys are the number 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, which means that they have the comfort of being at home every game they play in the NFC Playoffs.

The Giants are the number 5 seed in the NFC playoffs, meaning they will be on the road the whole time (except of course of the slight chance of the number 6 seed made it to the NFC Championship Game, which didn’t happen). You would think that they would hate the fact that they don’t get the comfort of being at home. Well, no. That is not the case here. The G-Men actually get the comfort of being ON THE ROAD. Imagine that, the comfort of being on the road. Well, in this case of the 2007-2008 Giants, it is true.

A team that went 3-5 at home and embarrassed their home fans throughout the year, while annoying road fans throughout, will head back to the one place that they just missed on embarrassing, Dallas.

The Giants lost a high-powered offensive game in the NFL’s opening week, with the final score being 45-35. In this game, the one before he re-aggravated his ankle injury, Plaxico Burress burned the Cowboys, catching 8 passes for 144 yards and 3 touchdowns receptions.

One player to look out for on the Giants defense is Gibril Wilson. He has owned Tony Romo this year, picking him off once in each game that he has faced him in this season.
