A disaster occurs at Shea as wheels fall of Perez
I was not able to watch yesterday’s game, but as soon as I heard in the car on WFAN’s 20/20 sports what happened at Shea yesterday, my eyes grew very wide.
The Mets were already losing by seven runs in the second inning. They had three errors in the game. That’s probably enough to describe what happened yesterday. If you really care to see the rest of the stats, read on.
The wheels can fall off Oliver Perez so fast that if he walks a batter, you better have a man in the bullpen by the time the next batter even steps into the box. The first four hitters in the Mets lineup yesterday went hitless, with Ryan Church and Carlos Delgado the only players with a hit in the game. Ryan Church was the only player on the team with an extra-base hit, a double.
Nelson Figueroa was able to get some work in the bullpen the night before yesterday. A day later, he threw in relief during a game. He went 3.1 innings and gave up a run.
Jorge Sosa gave up five runs, while Pedro Feliciano and Aaron Heilman combined for a scoreless final three innings of work.
Next Mets Test
The Mets have a day off before beginning a series with the D-Backs in Arizona on Friday.
