PreGame: Mets/Rockies

The Mets continue their homestand, this time against the Colorado Rockies, where John Maine (2-0, 1.93 ERA) will take on RHP Taylor Buchholz (1-0, 5.68 ERA) in his first start of the season, as he has made four relief apperances for the Rockies.

Maine was great in his last start, giving up two runs late, but bringing a no-hitter into the seventh inning right after a close call that could have gone either way to strike out the batter, but the umpire called a ball… the hitter, Cabrera of the Marlins, hit a single on the next pitch.

Delgado is in a serious home run slump. He hits doubles, like he should, but he doesn’t hit home runs, like he should. I don’t know what’s up, he has no HR’s this season and its April 23rd.

David Wright, also slumping, ended his career-high and franchise record-setting hit streak against the Braves on Friday Night.

In other news, Carlos Beltran, who has been hotter than any player in baseball lately (other than A-Rod), led the National League with 27 total bases, and has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for April 16-22, 2007. His 27 total bases included four doubles, two triples, and two home runs. His 13 hits and nine RBI tied him for second most in the National League. Beltran posted a .448 batting average, a slugging percentage of .931 and a .484 on-base percentage. Beltran is currently tied with Carlos Lee of the Houston Astros for the NL lead with 19 RBI. This is his fifth overall Player of the Week award and third in the National League, with his last one coming July 24-31, 2006.

Also included in the picture on the right, is SS Jose Reyes. Reyes has been very hot also, as he most recently slaughtered the Braves, hitting a homer on Saturday, and hit a bases-loaded triple (he had two on one night against ATL earlier this season at Turner Field, one coming from the Right side, one coming from the Left side) on Sunday to give the Mets a three-run lead, which the bullpen blew.

Tonight’s lineup should look the same olddd way.

1. Reyes SS

2. Lo Duca C

3. Beltran CF

4. Delgado 1B

5. Wright 3B

6. Alou LF

7. Green RF

8. Valentin 2B

9. Maine P
