Mets Squeeze by in Pittsburgh

The Mets won today by a score of 6-5 in Pittsburgh.

Orlando Hernandez threw over 120 pitches, the most by any Mets pitcher in years.

Carlos Delgado came inches, and I mean inches short of a two-run home run over the tall wall in Right Field today. Carlos Beltran did smack one to centerfield for his 21st HR of the year. Alou and Beltran both had two RBI.

Ruben Gotay continues to impress. With a pinch hit situation, he hit an opposite-field double down the left field line.

Jorge Sosa (9-6), picked up the win for the Mets. Wagner grabbed his 27th save of the year in 29 chances, and has a very impressive 1.55 ERA.

The Phillies won to stay 3 games behind the Mets in the NL East, and the Braves won to stay 4.0 games back.

Pedro Martinez had a very impressive rehab start today, allowing only three hits, and started off with three perfect innings against Mets minor leaguers. For more information on Pedro’s start, click here.
