After the win today, the Mets completed a 6-game road trip where they lost one game. They are now 5.0 games ahead of Philadelphia, and 5.5 games ahead of Atlanta. The Braves won today, which kept them from sinking down to 6.0 games behind the Mets (70-53). The Mets scored six runs in the last two innings of their game against the Nationals. The score was tied at 2 going into the eighth inning.
The Mets, who have the best road record at 38-26, will try to continue to do their best to run away with the division. After a disapointing series with the Braves recently, the Mets are back on track, winning 5 of their last 6 games, all on the road.
“It was a great road trip for us,” first baseman Shawn Green (who partially lost his starting job in RF recently, but has produced off the bench) said. “We’re putting ourselves in much better position as we get closer to September.”
With Damion Easley out for quite awhile with an ankle injury, Marlon Anderson played today and had 3 hits and 2 RBI. Carlos Beltran went 2-3 with 2 HR and 4 RBI.
El Duque got the win today and improved to 8-4 on the season. He allowed only 3 hits in 7 IP. Jorge Sosa pitched a hit-less inning in relief, while Pedro Feliciano did the same.
