Pedro Martinez left the game in line to be the winning pitcher after a great outing in his first start back in the major leagues since last September.
This is how he did: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, High speed of 91 MPH
The high speed of 91 came later in the game after he started the game throwing an 82 MPH fastball. He gained speed as the game moved along. In the first inning, he gave up two runs after Alou messed up his route to the ball, and also a slow roller that stayed fair. Pedro pitched great the rest of the way.
His next start will be against Houston at Shea Stadium
Also, Pedro K’ed his 3,000th batter of his career, joining only 15 other pitchers to do so. After the pitch it looked like Lo Duca didn’t realize it, then after Pedro called him over to give it to him, it looked like Lo Duca knew, but just forgot for a second.
Things are GREAT for the Mets right now: Pedro had a great start, the Mets are padding his lead, the Phillies are losing, and Pedro threw 91 MPH. He probably will throw faster in his next start.
