According to multiple sources, Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will again lead the Big Blue defense, this time with a 3-year, $6 million extension. This will make Spagnuolo the NFL’s highest-paid coordinator.
Spagnuolo was a huge part of that 2007-08 Championship season. Not only did he make his defense part of the NFL’s top-10 defenses, but he brought it from nearly last in the league, starting basically from scratch in his first season as a coordinator. In Super Bowl XLII, he held the New England Patriots to 14 points, their lowest total all season. Prior to that, the worst the Patriots offense did was score 20 points this season in a game against the Jets.
